So, is Virat Kohli going to eclipse the great Sachin Tendulkar? The answer is an emphatic yes. Everything Kohli has done till now only shows that he is on his way to become a true great.
But, this post is not about his records vs Sachin’s, it is about his batting. Virat has Azhar’s wrists, Sachin’s stillness, Dravid’s square cut, Ponting’s pull, Viv Richard’s swagger and at times Vikram Rathour’s prodding, all rolled into one. He is a complete package to say the least. His greatest asset is that his batting does not change much between the formats. Even in T20, he does not play switch hits, reverse sweeps and scoops. He relies on batting straight, cutting, pulling and running hard. Virat is almost an old fashioned batsman with modern day attitude. He is Sunil Gavaskar on steroids (I believe Sunil Gavaskar was one of the most aggressive batsman to have played for India)
In the current era, Virat will be always be compared with genius of a batsman ABD. Both are different players and have their own strengths. However, just looking at number of matches Virat’s contribution resulted in wins, I think Virat should be ahead of ABD.
